Some displaced individuals who fear returning to their home country may be ineligible for asylum protection in the U.S. However, there are two alternative forms of protection that an Immigration Judge could grant, which would allow the person to safely resettle in the U.S. notwithstanding bars to asylum, if they are likely to suffer persecution or torture in their country of origin.
