Cultural Humility: A Guide for HIAS Welcome Circle Members

Getting to know people from different backgrounds and cultures is both one of the most valuable rewards for HIAS Welcome Circle members, and also one of the greatest challenges. Join this session to learn what it means to integrate cultural humility into your work, and why it is important. We will discuss specific models that Welcome Circles can use to incorporate cultural humility into their plans for welcoming newcomers, how the language circle members use to discuss newcomers is shaped by our perceptions of the world, and how we can shift our language and strategies to interact more appropriately with newcomers from different cultural backgrounds.
